Army rescues wounded civilian, clashes with NPA in ZamboNorte
IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay – The 102nd Infantry “IGSOON” Brigade’s Task Unit “Terminator” rescued a wounded civilian at Barangay Balok, Katipunan, Zamboanga del Norte, Wednesday afternoon, September 28, 2022.
While conducting investigation and pursuit operations towards the direction of escape of the perpetrators, the composite troops of the 97th Infantry “Kalasaglahi” Battalion and 42nd Infantry “Tagapagtanggol” Battalion clashed with the remnants of the Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee (WMRPC) at the same barangay, 2:00 p.m., today, September 29, 2022.
“The wounded civilian was identified as Judito Ansay Lumon, a resident of said village, suffered a gunshot wound at his left knee after he was shot by unknown perpetrators while catching fish in a nearby stream together with his friend, Noel Cantones Segundo, at around 5:00 p.m., September 28,” said Lt. Col. Nolasco Coderos, Commanding Officer, 97IB.
The victim was immediately evacuated by the nearby Army troops to Zamboanga del Norte Medical Center for medical treatment.
The condemnation of the barbaric acts of the perpetrators by the victim’s family was supported by the 102Bde Commander.
“We condemn in the strongest terms the harming of innocent and unarmed civilians not involved in the armed conflict,” said Brig. Gen. Leonel Nicolas, Commander, 102nd Infantry Brigade who has overall operational jurisdiction in Zamboanga del Norte.
Meanwhile, the clash between the Army and the Communist Terrorist Group lasted for 15 minutes with no casualty to the government troops.
“I urge all constituents of the region to continue their cooperation in the sustainment of peace in their communities as we are now nearing the total defeat of the insurgency in the region,” Brig. Gen. Nicolas added.
