Death-Obituary Judy Tenuta Death – Brash “Goddess Of Love” Comedian Judy Tenuta Passes Away At Age 65

Judy Tenuta, a bold standup comedian who sarcastically referred to herself as the “Goddess of Love” and toured with George Carlin as she developed her career during the golden age of comedy in the 1980s, passed away on Thursday. Aged 65 years old. Tenuta passed away on Thursday afternoon in the company of her family at their home in Los Angeles, according to publicist Roger Neal, who spoke to the Associated Press. Neal described her as “a really humorous and fantastic entertainer,” and he noted that being in her presence always made for a “good moment.” Her heart-shaped face, which was crowned by bouffant hair with a flower accent, gave off the image of innocent innocence. However, this impression was swiftly broken by her loud, gravelly speech as well as her acerbic humor, which contained expletives. She referred to the accordion that she included in her act as “an instrument of love and submission,” and she played it as part of her act.

She was part of a generation of artists who contributed to the rise in popularity of live comedy in clubs across the country, including the Comedy Store in Los Angeles, the Laff Stop in Houston, and Caroline’s in New York City. Tenuta was one of the women who were successful in what is generally a male-dominated field. 1987 was the year that “Women of the Night,” an HBO special in which Tenuta starred alongside Ellen DeGeneres, Paula Poundstone, and Rita Rudner, catapulted her to the forefront of national recognition. Tenuta was honored as the best female comedy club performer during the “American Comedy Awards” television program that was shown in 1988. Jerry Seinfeld was honored as the best male comedy club performer. Other people who were recognized that year for their contributions to the club or screen industries were Bette Midler, Lily Tomlin, and Robin Williams.

Tenuta, who was wearing a gold lame wrapper and chewing gum as she got her prize from Carlin, launched a wisecrack in which she said, “I would trade it in a minute, if I could simply be a wife and mother.”
