The Major Crash Unit of the Lubbock Police Department is looking into an accident that happened in Central Lubbock on Sunday night and claimed the life of an 18-year-old woman.
On October 9 at 6:00 p.m., police were called to the 4300 block of 19th Street for reports of a pick-up truck and scooter collision with injuries.
Officers discovered Kaila Riojas suffering from severe wounds when they arrived.
She was taken by ambulance to University Medical Center, where she was subsequently declared dead.
According to the preliminary findings of the inquiry, Riojas was attempting to cross 19th Street from the north to the south when the truck, driven by 21-year-old Landon Newcomb, was going west in the 4200 block of 19th Street.
There were no other recorded injuries and the inquiry is still ongoing
