Rick Eshelman Death and Obituary, Missing World of Outlaws Late Model Announcer Rick Eshelman Found Dead, Cause of Death

So sad to hear the news of Rick Eshelman‘s passing. Had so many great times and laughs with him on the road during my WoO days. The pit area — and definitely the announcer’s tower — won’t be the same without him. RIP good friend.

Very sad to learn of the passing of Rick Eshelman. He’s known as the voice of the World of Outlaws Late Models. I remember Rick from my teenage years as he called races at Toledo and Flat Rock Speedway. Rest in peace. You will be missed.

World of Outlaws & DIRTcar Racing is very saddened to announce that one of his family members, Rick Eshelman, has gone missing.

Rick is known to fans around the world as the announcer of the World of Outlaws post-model series. Just over a month ago, he was inducted into the Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame, the culmination of his more than 40-year career. He was one of only four speakers.

But Rick was more than just an announcer. He is a friend to everyone along the way. His driver note card is legendary, a database that rivals any electronic product. Additionally, as an Air Force veteran, Rick holds a special place in his heart for the military and often recognizes veterans who attend events by urging them to stand up and be recognized.

Rick, 61, grew up in Michigan and raced the Flat Rock track. After being a shooter, he announced his first game at Flat Rock in 1979. A year later, he announced at Toledo, Ohio, before transferring to the Air Force. In 2012, the Michigan Motorsports Fan Club presented him with the prestigious Tom Carnegie Announcer of the Year Award.

“We are deeply saddened and shocked to learn that we have lost our brother Rick Eshelman,” said Brian Carter, CEO of World of Outlaws. “Please pray to his family, his World of Outlaws and DIRTcar families, and his many friends across the country.”

The World of Outlaws & DIRTcar will release more details in honor of Rick at a later date.
